Case Against Jamuna Boss

Bashundhara director's allegation proven 'false'

Court Correspondent
A Dhaka court yesterday expressed its irritation at a “false abduction case” filed by a Bashundhara Group director against three persons, including Jamuna Group chairman. The court asked director of Bashundhara Shamsuddin Ahmed to explain his statement in the case within seven days. Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Zafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman also discharged Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul, his son Shamim Islam and son-in-law SM Wadud from the charges as the allegation brought against them was proved to be false. The court said if the complainant, Shamsuddin, fails to explain within seven days, he will be fined Tk 1,000. In default, he will suffer 30 days in jail. Nurul Islam Babul, Shamim and Wadud were present at the court during the yesterday's hearing. Shamsuddin filed the case against the three with Badda Police Station on August 16, 2006. In his complaint, Shamsuddin said Shamim and Wadud as per the instruction of Babul abducted Zahid Hossain, a security guard of Banshundhara Group, on August 15, 2006 as he was a witness of a case filed against them. Shamsuddin also came to know from two local people--Shamsul Haque and Salauddin--that Zahid was abducted from Pragati Sarani adjacent to Bishwa Road with an intention to kill him so that he (Zahid) could not give statements against the accused. But the investigator found that Zahid was out of the capital when the case was filed and returned to Dhaka on August 27, 2006, the court informed. Sub-Inspector Sohrab Hossain, also investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against Jamuna boss and two others on July 15, 2007.
