Sitakunda to be green industrial zone: Barua
Industries Minister Dilip Barua said Sitakunda will be declared as ship-breaking green industrial zone soon.
An inter-ministerial meeting will be held with a view to formulating policy on ship- breaking, Dilip Barua said while talking to journalists after his visit to various ship- breaking yards at Sitakunda yesterday.
He said the government earns about Tk 850 crore in revenue per year from ship-breaking sector. The government will earn more if this sector is recognised as an industry.
He urged all concerned to the sector for protecting environment along with development of ship-breaking sector.
Lawmaker Abul Kashem Master and local elite were also present.
