Salvaging of Korean ship uncertain
No decision was reached at a meeting here yesterday between Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), Department of Environment (DoE), coast guard and shipping agents on the fate of a North Korean ship, which sank in the Bay.
The ship MV Hyang Ro Bong, transporting 13,492 tonnes of rice imported from Pakistan for Bangladesh, sank at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port after it collided with a ship on April 6.
At the meeting held at Bandor Bhaban, Shoumen Chakraborty, manager of Fortune Shipping, the ship's local agent, said decision on the salvage would be taken after a meeting with the ship's Korean owner, who arrived yesterday. The CPA secretary said Fortune Shipping would take care of the crew.
District Food Officer Nazme Ara Begum said Bangladesh incurred no loss, as the rice was not yet received.
