Road crashes kill six, injure 20
Six people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenidah, Chittagong, Lalmonirhat and Bandarban districts on Wednesday night and yesterday.
Our correspondent from Jhenidah reports: A man was killed when a motorcycle hit him on Shailkupa-Garaganj road in Shailkupa upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased Abdur Rashid, 20, is the son of Osman Shah of Baidyanathpur village under Islamic University Police Station in Kushtia.
Police said locals rushed Rashid to Shailokupa Upazila Health Complex after the accident where doctors declared him dead.
The motorcycle rider fled immediately after the incident. A case was filed with Shailokupa Police Station in this connection. The body was sent to Jhenidah General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
CU correspondent says: Two people including a student of Chittagong University were killed in a road mishap on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Neyamat Ullah Patwary, 23, son of Shahidullah Patwary of Matlab of Chandpur district and Md Alamgir, 40, son of Jalal Mia of Hazi Para of Bandar police station. He was the second year student of Philosophy department of CU. Alamgir died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) around 3:15pm and Neyamat Ullah succumbed to his injuries at CMCH around 9:00pm on Wednesday.
Police said the accident occurred when a city bus hit a divider and overturned in Tiger pass area of the port city around 3:00pm.
Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat says: A woman was killed in road accident on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in Awliyarhat area of Patgram upazila yesterday.
The woman was identified as Fatema Begum, 20, wife of Shah Alam
of Awliyarhat village of Patgram upazila.
Local said the accident took place when a vehicle of Patgram upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) hit the woman while she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.
But the UNO denied local people's claim.
Harunur Rashid, UNO of Patgram, said, “I heard a woman was killed by a road accident in Awliyarhat area, but my vehicle did not hit the woman. I didn't know which vehicle hit the woman”.
BSS from Bandarban adds: Two people of Mro tribal were killed and 20 others injured, five of them critically, in a road accident at Chembuk on the Chembuk-Baithapara road last night.
Police said the accident occurred when a truck turned turtle into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over steering, leaving two dead on the spot and wounding 20, including seven women.
The victims were identified as Rampu Mro, 12, and Manpu Mro, 18.
Five critically injured people were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
All the people were going to Baithapara from Chembuk boarding the truck after attending a Pahela Baishakh celebration function at Chembuk.
