Road crashes kill 2 in Munshiganj

Our Correspondent, Munshiganj
Locals blocked the Dhaka-Mawa Highway for over four hours yesterday following a road accident at Srinagar that killed two people and injured four. Movement of vehicles resumed after the authorities built a speed breaker on the highway in face of the locals' demand. The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus of Godhuli Paribahan collided head-on with a CNG-run auto rickshaw at Umpara of the area around 2:00pm, reports our correspondent. Two passengers of the three-wheeler, Liton, 20, and Bishwajit, 34, died on the spot, said Md Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station. The injured Nuru Mia, 40, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Hemanta, 35, Rubel, 25, and Deen Islam, 25, were taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. The locals barricaded the highway shortly after the accident. They were asking for a speed breaker for a long time as accidents frequently occur on that spot. Hundreds of vehicles queued on the highway for hours causing distress to the passengers. Locals withdrew the barricade at 6:30pm after their demand was believably met.
