2 commit suicide
A female NGO activist allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in the city's Kathalbagan yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Akhter, 24, wife of Lutfar Rahman of the area.
SI of Kolabagan Police Station Abdul Halim said they recovered the body around 2:00pm.
Quoting the victim's husband, the SI said she committed suicide out of emotion.
The couple locked into an altercation over family matters and following that her husband went out from home to recharge his cell phone's balance, he said.
After coming back, Lutfar found the door of the washroom locked from inside. He broke open the door after half an hour, as he received no response from her despite repeated knocks on the door, said the SI.
Luthfar found her wife hanging from iron bar of the shower and later informed the police, he added.
Meanwhile, female teenage house help allegedly committed suicide on Sunday morning by hanging herself at the city's Cantonment.
The deceased was identified as Nasrin Nazma, 16, daughter of Dulal Miah of Fulbari of Mymensing district.
Police said Nazma worked at Col retd. Abul Kalam Mohammad Zakir's house at DOHS. Around 10:00am she committed suicide hanging with her scruff as the housemates rebuked her.
