Fair probe demanded
Barisal City Corporation Mayor Advocate Shawkat Hossain Hiron yesterday asked the government to monitor and ensure investigation on the incident in which college student Limon became disabled in a Rab shootout.
He was addressing as the chief guest at an exchange of views on the role of police in a democratic society at Celebration Point auditorium in the city.
Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (Blast) in cooperation with Nagorik Udyog (Citizen Initiative) and Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Delhi, jointly organised the programme. Representatives from different public and private sectors including local government representatives spoke at the meeting.
Abdul Gaffar Khan, former president Blast Barisal unit, presided over the programme.
Khalilur Rahman, coordinator of Blast Barisal unit; Mohammad Altaf Hossain, chief judicial magistrate; Dr Abdur Rahim, deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Barisal range; Devdas Bhattacharjee, district police super; and Ezaz Ahmed, deputy police commissioner Barisal Metropolitan Police; spoke.
