Chowdhury Alam's wife sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Hasina Chowdhury, wife of missing Dhaka City Corporation ward councilor Chowdhury Alam, to jail in an extortion case. Hasina was earlier sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment in absentia in the case. Judge Hasina Rowson Jahan of the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Hasina Chowdhury surrendered to the court and sought bail in the case. On September 12, 2007, the same court sentenced Chowdhury Alam and his wife Hasina to 10 years imprisonment in a case filed for extortion with Paltan Police Station. ASM Alauddin, managing director of The Western Engineering Limited, filed the case against them on April 4 of 2007 for extorting Tk 50 lakh. The investigation officer of the case pressed charges against the two on April 30 the same year.
