C'wealth Action Group meet begins Apr 27
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni will attend a meeting of Commonwealth Action Group (CMAG) in London from April 27 to 28 and later go on a bilateral visit to Bahrain from May 1 to 2.
Official sources said she would leave Dhaka for London tomorrow and then to Bahrain.
Foreign ministry sources said her Bahrain visit is significant as both countries are likely to sign a deal related to manpower export from Bangladesh and the countries' officials are working on the deal's finalisation.
Dipu Moni will also hold a bilateral meeting with Bahrain's Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who visited Dhaka on March 31, where regularisation of undocumented Bangladeshi workers will figure prominently, said officials.
Bangladesh already requested Bahrain to regularise around 10,000 undocumented Bangladeshis out of 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi workers there. The undocumented workers are being affected by political unrest and subsequent state of emergency in Bahrain, said sources.
There is assurance from Bahrain side to consider the case of these undocumented workers, they added.
Dipu Moni is also scheduled to accompany Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Turkey to attend the UN LDC summit from May 6 to 11. The prime minister would also attend UN's 64th World Health Assembly in Geneva from May 16 to 17.
CMAG comprises of Australia, Bangladesh, Ghana, Jamaica, Maldives, Namibia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Trinidad and Tobago (as Chair-in-Office.)
Established by Commonwealth Heads of Government in November 1995, CMAG deals with "serious or persistent violations" of principles contained in the 1991 Harare Declaration.
