CHT Commission urges PM
Call for refraining civil, military and other security personnel from land-related disputes
Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Commission yesterday urged the prime minister to form a neutral probe body to investigate into the clashes between Bangalees and indigenous people on April 17 in Ramgarh at Khagrachhari.
The commission officials strongly condemned the murder of at least five lives and demand trial of those responsible, said a statement signed by the commission's Co-chairs Sultana Kamal, Eric Avebury and Ida Nicolaisen.
Terming land dispute the overriding factor for continuous violence in hills, they stressed on the need for resolving these disputes on an urgent basis.
The commission also recommended full implementation of CHT Peace Accord-1997 to avoid further violence there.
About the clash on April 17, they recommended taking action against security forces members allegedly involved with the clash and for negligence of duty and ensuring proper relief and rehabilitation for the victims.
Their other recommendations include instructing all civil, military and other security personnel to refrain from getting involved in land-related disputes and amendment of Land Commission Act according to the accord.
They also urged to replace the Land Commission chairman with a neutral person and declare a roadmap to implement the accord.
