16 Myanmar citizens held in city
Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested 16 Myanmar citizens from the city's Fakirerpool and Motijhil areas for illegal entry to Bangladesh territory.
The arrestees are Yunus, 41, Abdur Rahman, 22, Abdullah, 31, Mohammad Saked, 20, Anisur Rahman, 20, Kefayat Ullah, 20, Nur Muhammad, 38, Abdul Kuddus, 52, Arafat, 18, Abul Miah, 18, Anwar Hossain, 24 and Nur Mohammad, 20.
Police arrested them from Islamia and Jahanara hotel around 7:00pm.
"The Myanmar citizens had crossed the border few days back and arrived the city to go to Saudi Arabia illegally with the help of brokers," said Senior Assistant Commissioner (DB) Golam Mostafa Russel.
The arrestees had no passports or any valid documents and wanted to use Bangladeshi passport, he added.
