Transport workers beat 5 CU students
Five students of Chittagong University (CU) were beaten up by transport workers at Nandirhat in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong Saturday night.
SM Helal Uddin, Mohammad Ali, Swadesh Vodra, and AJM Mamun Hasan are master's students of sociology department, and Nazmul Sakib, second year student of Bangla department.
Helal and Ali were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical condition. Others took primary treatment at the university medical centre.
Police said Helal was beaten up by the helper and driver of Tari, an engine-run passenger carrier, following an altercation over fare at Nandirhat around 10:30pm.
As fellows of Helal reached there, the transport workers beat them up too along with locals. Police of university outpost rescued the students and picked up the helper Md Rafique and the driver Abul Kalam.
