13 killed, 43 injured in road accidents

13 people were killed and 43 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat yesterday. Our Sirajganj correspondent reports: At least eight people were killed and 13 others injured as a bus hit a human hauler at Parkola in Shahjadpur upazila yesterday. The deceased are Hafizul Islam, 48, Mominul Islam, 45, Rabiul Hasan, 42, Shahidul Islam, 29, Akkas Ali, 25 and Faruk Hossen, 22, of Santhia upazila of Pabna. The identity of two others could not be known immediately. Locals said the accident took place when the human hauler, locally known as Nosiman, fell into a roadside ditch with 29 people aboard after the speedy bus hit it at about 3:30pm, leaving eight people dead. The injured were rushed to Bogra Md Ali Hospital and Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex. Our Dinajpur correspondent says: At least three people were killed and 30 others injured in three separate road accidents in the district yesterday. One of deceased was identified as Md Mahbubur Rahman, 30, a helper of a bus. Other deceased could be identified immediately. In Hakimpur upazila, driver of a bus lost his control over steering and fell into roadside ditch on Hakimpur-Bogra highway at Moshidpur village yesterday, leaving one dead on the spot and 30 others injured. In Phulbari, a rice-loaded truck lost its control and fell into a roadside ditch on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway at Rangamati village yesterday, leaving the truck helper dead on the spot. In Dinajpur town, a speedy motorcyclist was killed on the spot as the motorcycle hit a parked microbus at Dinajpur central bus terminal yesterday. Our Lalmonirhat correspondent adds: A mother and her daughter were killed as a Bogra-bound stone-laden truck from Burimari land port hit them while they were crossing road on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway at Hatibandha around 6:00pm yesterday. The deceased are Moriyom Begum, 35, wife of Mukul Miah and her three-year-old daughter Rosna Akhter of Bejgram village of the same upazila.
