Sher-e-Bangla's anniversary of death today

Today is the 49th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, a national leader of the undivided Bengal. On the occasion, his daughter-in-law Rukhsana Faez Huq and his five grandchildren will organise milad mahfil at their residences at Baridhara and 27, KM Das Lane at Tikatuli in the city. Qurankhwani will be offered for salvation of his departed soul while destitute feeding programme will be held at Baridhara and Tikatuli mosques. Paying tribute to the great politician President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina and Opposition Leader Begum Khaleda Zia gave separate statements. Sher-e-Bangla played an important role in the society through poverty reduction, economic empowerment and education, says President Zillur Rahman. He contributed a lot for the oppressed and exploited farmers and labourers in the country by formulating Rin Salishi Board (Debt Arbitration Board), he added. Praying for salvation of the departed soul of Sher-e-Bangla, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian in her statement said that he was one of the front leaders of the independence movement of Bengal. One of the architects of Bengali nationalism Sher-e-Bangla would be an all time source of inspiration for the countrymen, she added. Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq played a strong role in realising the democratic rights of the people of Bangladesh, said Begum Khaleda Zia paying tribute to his departed soul. National Democratic League will organise a discussion on the premises of the graveyard of Sher-e-Bangla at 8:30am today while Bangabandhu Shanskritik Jote will place wreaths at 8:30am to mark the day.
