Ten killed in road accidents
Ten people were killed and 13 others injured in separate road accidents in Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Comilla and Sylhet on Tuesday and yesterday.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports: At least three persons including a mother and her daughter were killed and seven others injured in an accident on Naogaon-Rajshahi highway at Mallikpur of Manda upazila in Naogaon on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Farida Begum, 32, wife of Nurul Amin and her daughter Nahid Akhtar Nadi, 10, of Chakbholai village and Ohir Uddin, 65, of Noltoir village of Mnada upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a Rajshahi-bound speedy bus hit a locally made three-wheeler, Nasimon, leaving three passengers of the Nasimon dead on the spot.
Of the injured, five were admitted to Manda Upazila Health Complex.
Following the accident agitating locals damaged some buses and blockaded the highway for three hours.
Our Sirajganj correspondent says: At least two people including a woman were killed and two others injured in a road accident on Sirajganj-Bogra highway in Kutirchar area of Kamarkhand upazila yesterday.
One of the deceased was identified as Aymuna Khatun, 35, however, the name of other deceased could not be known immediately.
The injured were rushed to the Sirajganj General Hospital.
Police said the accident took place when a speedy truck hit a rickshaw-van carrying four passengers, leaving two people dead on the spot.
UNB from Comilla adds: At least three people were killed and four others injured in collision between an auto-rickshaw and a bus at Mistripukurpar of Paduarbazar yesterday.
Locals said a Chandpur-bound 'Soudia Paribahan' bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw instantly killing auto-rickshaw driver Makbul Hossain, 29, and injuring six auto-rickshaw passengers.
Police with the help of locals rescued the injured and rushed them to Comilla Medical College Hospital but two of them died on way. Their identity could not be ascertained.
UNB from Sylhet says: Two people, including a minor, were killed in separate road accidents in Gabindaganj and Balaganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Taslima Aktar Sayema, a student of nursery of a kindergarten school and daughter of Gani Mia of Sonargaon village of Balaganj and Abdus Sattar, 45, son of late Shafik Ahmed of Sheikhpur of Chhatak and correspondent of the Daily Uttar Purbo a Sylhet-based vernacular newspaper.
Police said Sayema was hit and instantly killed by a truck when she was crossing road at Doyamir in Osmanynagar.
Hospital sources said Sattar succumbed to his injuries at Osmany Medical College and Hospital.
He was hit and injured by an auto-rickshaw in Gobindaganj and rushed to OMCH by locals.
