120 sacks of OMS rice seized, 5 held
Food department officials arrested five people, including a dealer and recovered 120 sacks of rice meant for Open Market Sale (OMS) from C&B Bazar in the upazila on Tuesday night.
The arrestees are OMS rice dealer Shanti Ranjan Das, 50, his son Prakash Das, 25, driver of pickup truck Mahfuz Sheikh and drivers of two three wheelers, Maharaj and Alauddin.
District Food Controller, M Selimul Azam said Shanti lifted six tonnes of rice from the warehouse in the afternoon.
The food officials reached the spot around 8:30pm and caught the five while they were loading the rice on the vehicles.
Shanti's dealership was cancelled on charge of selling the rice in black market.
The team also seized a pickup van and two three wheelers
The controller filed a case with Bagerhat Police Station against the five arrestees.
