Workshop on child mental health begins
An eight-day workshop on mental health, autism, and neurodisability began in the city on April 29, says a press release.
Two child experts from the UK are conducting the programme with multidisciplinary professionals of Shishu Bikash Network (SBN).
They also evaluate the services of government-sponsored Shishu Bikash Kendras (SBKs) established in the medical college hospitals.
The experts are Prof Helen McConachie, professor of child clinical psychology of Newcastle University; and Dr Alison Salt, head of Neurodisability Services, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Institute of Child Health, London.
At the 77th Scientific Meeting of SBN, Dr McConachie presented a paper on "Anxiety disorders in older children with autism" and Dr Salt on "Early intervention programmes for children with visual impairment" at Bangladesh Protibandhi Foundation auditorium in the city on May 1.
SBN chairperson Dr Jena Hamadani presided over the programme addressed by Dr Selina Husna Banu, SBN covener Prof Naila Zaman Khan, and national coordinator for establishment of SBKs.
The experts would visit three SBKs in Sir Salimullah and Suhrawardy medical college hospitals in Dhaka city and tour to the medical college hospitals of Sylhet and Barisal.
