95 Islami Andolan men freed

Police yesterday freed 95 Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) leaders and activists, who were detained on Sunday evening from the city's Paltan during violent clashes between IAB men and cops that left over 50 people injured. Ramna division Deputy Commissioner of DMP Krishna Pada Roy said they freed them in the afternoon as their senior leaders gave undertakings assuring that the detainees will not involve in any activities in a bid to deteriorate law and order and if necessary they will appear before police. Earlier in the morning at a press conference at IAB central office, its chief Ameer Syed Rezaul Karim threatened to call hartal if the women development policy and education policy were not cancelled and the high court verdict on Fatwa was not nullified by May 30. Our Narayanganj Correspondent adds: Protesting police action in Muktangon, several hundred IAB activists yesterday put barricades on Dhaka-Chittagong in Siddhirganj area.
