Scholarship for workers' children
Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters' Association (BGMEA) awarded scholarships to two hundred meritorious children of garment workers on May Day (Sunday) in the port city.
BGMEA first vice-president Nasir Uddin Chowdhury distributed the awards among the children at a community centre in Chittagong city.
The scholarship includes tuition fee, school dress, school bag, books, and other educational materials, said BGMEA sources.
BGMEA also organised a cultural programme to mark the May Day. Garment workers performed music, dance, and drama at the programme.
The organisation also awarded crests and certificates to 86 efficient workers and supervisors of 97 garment factories in Chittagong.
BGMEA president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said the organisation arranges award giving programme in Dhaka regularly.
