Four jute warehouses gutted
Four jute warehouses were gutted in a fire in Tamakpotti area of the district town yesterday.
Owners of the warehouses claimed to have incurred a sum of Tk 20 crore loss in the blaze that damaged around 6000 tonnes (1.5 lakh maunds) of jute in all.
Sources said the fire originated as a transformer blasted near Sharmin Jute Balers around 9:00am and soon spread to adjoining three warehouses of Universal Jute Balers and Tangail Jute Balers.
Fire fighters from Mondalpara and Haziganj fire stations subdued the blaze after hours of efforts.
