Section 145 imposed in Mohalchhari
The local administration yesterday ordered a status quo under Section 145 following a land dispute between the indigenous people and Bangalis at remote Karallachhari under Mohalchhari upazila in Khagrachhari district.
The order came amid mounting tense after indigenous people built 11 new houses on a land belonging to Bangalis, police said.
The administration imposed status quo barring both Bangali and ethnic people from building any structure until the matter is settled in court.
Army, police and Ansar members took position in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
"They [indigenous people] built houses on our land although the government allocated these lands for us in 1980s," SM Hemayet Ali, a teacher of Lemuchhari High School, told this correspondent yesterday.
"We found 11 new pucca and semi-pucca houses at Karallachhari but the builders could not show any documents. So we imposed 145 in the area," Mohalchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Alamgir said.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Monindra Lal Tripura said he sat with Bangali and ethnic community leaders and requested them to bring peaceful harmony among all section of people.
