India keen to expand trade
Hamid Ansari tells Zillur
India has showed keen interest in further increasing the bilateral relation with Bangladesh through expanding trade and commercial activities between the two countries.
Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said this when he paid a courtesy call on President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban yesterday evening.
Ansari said that being imbued with moral responsibility, his country extended support to Bangladesh during its liberation war in 1971.
Describing Bangladesh as a close neighbour, he said both the countries are bounded by common history and culture and hoped that mutual cooperation will be gradually strengthened in future.
Zillur said excellent bilateral relation is prevailing between the two countries now and hoped that this relation would be further strengthened by this visit.
Describing India as tested friend, he recalled the support and cooperation extended by India during the War of Liberation in 1971.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur, Indian lawmakers OP Mathur and Moinul Hassan and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Rajeet Mitter were present.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni called on Hamid Ansari at Sonargaon Hotel.
