10 killed in road accidents
Ten people, including a member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), were killed and 14 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Rajshahi, Manikganj, Kushtia, Narsingdi and Thakurgaon districts yesterday.
UNB from Comilla reports: Four people were killed and six injured in a three-vehicle pileup at Noabazar in Chouddagram upazila.
One of the deceased was identified as Robiul, son of Monir Hossain of Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur district while the identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately.
Police said a Dhaka-bound goods-laden truck from Chittagong collided with a Feni-bound pick-up van. Soon after the collision, the pick-up van was hit by another vehicle, a Chittagong-bound covered van, killing three pick-up van passengers on the spot.
Seven injured people were rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital where Robiul succumbed to his injuries.
Later, five of the injured were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Our Rajshahi correspondent says: A Chapainawabganj-bound truck from Dhaka ploughed into a BGB check-post and a roadside shop on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway at Sultanganj in Godagari upazila.
On duty border guard Nayek Nayan Miah, 44, who was inside the check-post, died on the spot.
Truck driver Bakul Hossain, 30, and helper Shuvo also sustained injuries during the accident.
Driver Bakul died on way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while the helper was admitted to the hospital.
Our Manikganj correspondent adds: Soma Akter, 9, was run over by a Paturia-bound bus at Joka in Ghior upazila.
Soma was a class III student of Joka Government Primary School and daughter of Biltu Mia of Bionna-Prashad village in the upazila.
Hearing the news, local people put barricade on the Dhaka-Aricha highway demanding a speed breaker at Joka.
Our Kushtia correspondent says: A schoolgirl was killed as a human hauler, locally known as nosimon, hit an auto-rickshaw at Jagati in Sadar upazila.
The deceased was Swarna Khatun, 7, daughter of Sahjahan Mondol, and a student Jagati Government Primary School.
Auto-rickshaw passenger Sawrna died on the spot while five other passengers, including its driver, were injured during the accident.
Three of the injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.
Our Narsingdi correspondent adds: An unidentified man, aged about 50, died on the spot when a Dhaka-bound bus hit him at Mahmudabad in Raipura upazila.
The body was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy, police said.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent says: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured as a speeding truck hit a motorbike from behind on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway in front of Bangladesh Betar, Thakurgaon Center at Shingpara village of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Bikash Chandra, 32, son of Bimol Chandra, of Shantinagar village of Sadar upazila.
Protesting the accident agitating locals blocked the highway.
