Women policy not conflicting with Quran: Hafiz

Unb, Dhaka
Former adviser to a caretaker government M Hafiz Uddin Khan yesterday viewed that the women policy is not conflicting with the holy Quran and Hadith. “I am a Muslim and read the holly Quran. And I also studied the new women policy made by the present government. But I did not find anything in the women policy contradictory to the holy book,” he said. Referring to critics of the policy he said Mufti Fazlul Haq Amini of Islamic Ain Bastabayan Committee opposed the government move to keep suppressed the women. He was speaking at a discussion on “Gender Based Social Assistance Program for Non Asseters-SAPNA-Centered in Maternity Allowance.” Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP) organised the event at Bangladesh Economic Association auditorium in the city marking the International Mother Day. Hafizuddin Khan urged the government to publish the women policy so that the people can understand the real facts of the women policy. Khan, also member of Transparency International Bangladesh trustee board, said right to information is not effective although a commission has been set up to ensure the rights. Ashraf Hossain, director general of Women Affairs, Teresa Labrador Lopez de Azcona, project manager of Spanish Agency for Development and International Cooperation-AECID and DORP Secretary General AHM Nouman, among others spoke.
