President Zillur Rahman yesterday urged the Information Commission to gradually expand its services for the welfare of the people. “You've to remain alert that the people get information without facing any problem,” he said when Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Mohammad Zamir presented the annual report of the commission to him at Bangabhaban. Information Commissioners M Abu Taher and Prof Dr Sadeka Halim accompanied Zamir. Zillur urged the commissioners to extend their activities for the welfare of the countrymen. The commissioners sought his cooperation for incorporating an article on Right to Information Act (RTI) in textbooks under the secondary education curricula with a view to building a conscious generation. Zamir told the president that some 45 countries around the world are observing the activities of the commission and Bhutan has already expressed its intention to replicate the Information Commission of Bangladesh. He also informed that a South Asian Information Commission could be formed and by sharing of information Bangladesh Information Commission could work with it in the counter-terrorism activities in this region.
