Sylhet agri instt closed sine die
Agriculture Training Institute, Sylhet (ATI) was closed for an indefinite period yesterday following clashes between two groups of students left at least 15 students injured.
The institute authorities also asked the students to vacate the dormitory immediately.
ATI Principal Md Hanifa said students who run the dining hall split into two factions and started clashing on Sunday afternoon over misappropriation of funds.
In the clash, five students sustained injuries. Two of them were admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Another clash erupted yesterday morning leaving 10 more students wounded. Two of them were admitted to the medical college hospital.
The other injured were given first aid.
The clashing students used rods and sharp weapons including daggers to attack the rival group. Police recovered some of the weapons from the dormitory.
Meanwhile, the ATI principal lodged a general diary (GD) with Kotowali Police Station accusing about 30 students for attacking his office and injuring Monirul Islam, the hall supervisor and an instructor.
