Talk about constitution in JS
Nasim urges opposition party
Senior Awami League leader and former home minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday called upon the opposition party to talk about the constitutional amendment by joining the Jatiya Sangsad.
“There are scopes for expressing opinions by the opposition about the constitutional amendment in parliament if they have anything to say about this,” he told a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity here.
Awami Olama League arranged the discussion on the occasion of the second death anniversary of eminent nuclear scientist Dr M Wazed Mian.
About BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's demand of resignation of the government, Nasim said, “The government has not failed, rather you have failed to make constructive criticism and also perform responsibilities as the leader of the opposition in parliament.”
The former home minister added: “If you are a responsible person, join the Jatiya Sangsad and discuss the constitutional amendment. Otherwise, you should resign from the post of the leader of the opposition instead of demanding resignation of the government.”
Nasim said the government has been working relentlessly for trial of war criminals and solving the gas, water, electricity and traffic jam problems.
Refuting BNP allegation that the country is witnessing crisis, he said the country and Awami League are not in crisis. It is BNP-Jamaat and its allies who are facing crisis.
Nasim said midterm election would not be given as per the demand of BNP. “Such a situation has not created in the country that midterm election will have to be given,” he said.
Mentioning that conspiracies are on against the government, he said the people like Amini will not be allowed to move further. “If they come to power again, the militants and fundamentalists will dominate the country,” Nasim said.
He called upon the government to take initiatives to restore confidence of the investors in the stock market.
Nasim termed Wazed Mia as unassuming and devoted and a man without greed. “He did not exercise his power although he was very close to the power,” he said.
Describing the death of Wazed Mia as an irreparable loss to the nation, he said his devotion to the nation will be remembered for ever.
“Wazed Mia used to speak candidly what he believed, and he always thought for the country and its people, he said.
With Olama League President Iliyas Hossain Bin Helali in the chair, the discussion was also addressed by Dhaka City AL General Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.
