One of 2 raped teenagers dies
One rapist arrested
Police yesterday arrested the main accused in a rape and murder case filed with Chandgaon Police Station in Chittagong city on May 5.
Chandgaon Officer-in-charge Syed Abdur Rauf said they detained the accused, Jahngir Alam, 36, of Bandarban district at a house in Bahaddarhat area of the port city.
"We will produce him before the court tomorrow (today)," he said.
Arrest of Jahangir was made after one of two 13-year-old girls, raped by Jahangir Alam and Rafiq Islam on April 30 and May 1, gave statement before Chittagong metropolitan magistrate on Monday.
The teenage girl in her statement said she and her fellow used to work as housemaids at Ramu in Cox's Bazar.
On April 30, Jahangir and Rafiq brought the two girls to their house in Bahaddarhat in Chittagong city alluring them to provide job in garment factory.
Jahangir, the narrator girl said, raped them alternately that night and threatened them not to disclose it to anyone and left the house.
Raped, her (narrator) fellow got fever and was bleeding and vomiting. On May 1, Rafiq came to the house and raped the two girls alternately on the night despite one being sick.
The sick girl suffered serious injuries due to repeated rape and was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) next morning (May 2) where she died the same day.
Jahangir and Rafiq fled following her death at CMCH.
The narrator girl said the two culprits threatened her that she would be killed like her fellow if she discloses the incident to anyone. Later, she made a phone call to one of her relatives and filed a case with Chandgaon Police Station.
