Road crashes kill 5

Five people were killed and nine others injured in separate road accidents in Kushtia, Manikganj, Dinajpur, Natore and Kurigram on Tuesday and yeserday. Our Kushtia correspondent reports: A man was killed and five others were injured as a rice-laden truck skidded off Kushtia-Rajbari road and fell into a roadside ditch at Mollah Teghoria yesterday. The deceased was identified as Unmad Ali, 55, of Khoksa upazila. The injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital. Our Manikganj correspondent adds: A schoolgirl was injured seriously when she was forced to step down from a running bus in front of her school at Terosree of Ghior upazila yesterday. The injured Zakia Sultana, a student of class ten of Terosree High School. She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Following the accident, agitating locals put barricade on Ghior-Daupatpur road for four hours. Our Dinajpur correspondent says: A day labourer was killed in a road accident as a truck crushed him at Hili Land Port of Hakimpur upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased is Md Asaduzzaman Asad, son Sekendar Ali, village Malepara of Hili port and a day labourer of Hili Port Labourer Union. After the accident, labourers started an indefinite strike demanding arrest of the killer truck. Our Natore correspondent adds: A five-year-old boy was killed as a bus run over him while he was crossing Natore-Bogra highway at Bandar Amtola of Singra upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Aramn Ali, son of Afaz Ali, of village Bandar of the upazila. After the accident, agitating locals barricaded the highway for one and half hours demanding a speed breaker on the spot. In another accident, a seven-year-old girl was killed when a paddy-laden truck crushed her while she was crossing Natore-Iswardi road at Nabinagar of Lalpur upazila yesterday. The deceased is Irin Sultana, daughter of Abdul Hakim, of the village. Our Kurigram correspondent says: A man was killed and three women were injured when an auto-rickshaw over turned at Bhurungamari upazila yesterday. The deceased is Md Kalim Uddin, 70, a freedom fighter, of Tilay union of the upazila. The injured were admitted to Bhurungamari Health Complex.
