'Implement Women Development Policy'
Hundreds of men and women, at a human chain in Rajshahi city, yesterday demanded implementation of the national women development policy.
The participants strongly criticised the fundamentalists who, they said, are creating instability in the country by peddling misinterpretation of the policy.
A section of Islamic clerics is tarnishing the holy image of Islam by misusing the religion for petty political interests and is threatening the rights of women, they said.
The policy, according to them, truly reflects the demands of the women over the years despite many limitations, and therefore they want it to be implemented.
Rajshahi district unit of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organised the human chain at Alupatty in the city with its President Lailun Nahar Baby in the chair.
Also addressing the programme were language movement veteran Abul Hossain, social activist Shaheen Akhtar Reni, journalist Mustafijur Rahman Khan, politicians Abul Kalam Azad, and Abdulah Al MAsud Shibli, teacher Dr Sujit Sarker, Kolpona Roy, and Morjina Parvin.
