Although the idea of education is a necessity, the actual implementation is a luxury. In Bangladesh, this luxury is further exemplified by the high tuition fees imposed by schools, especially English Medium Schools. For that amount of money, one would expect the very best of education handed out. Instead, what I have observed is that almost all the textbooks in English Medium Schools were first published in the early 1970s-1980s. Even with reprinted versions, the information in those books is outdated in keeping with the global pace of science and technology. As a result, the students are lagging behind other students in other countries. Knowledge is passed on from one generation to another, but with this lag, what will our children pass on to their children?
