Here are some comments that came in response to Saturday's The Daily Star report headlined “Lake City lacks fire safety.”

The government is not smart that it speaks now, after the flats have been handed over. Perhaps it would have been smart if it reviewed the design and objected when it was being developed. Maurice Peterson
It surprises me to find such modern buildings are lacking the basics of safety requirements. As per law, connections of water, electricity and gas should be provided only after the basics safety requirements are completed. Concerned authorities please wake up. The next family caught in fire may be your family or family members. Monowara Begum
The people who are seating at the top of the helm in Concord, people deserve an explanation. What about the fire department? Are they not responsible? I hope Eng. Kamal will come forward with an immediate solution. Otherwise, he may be responsible if people die due to lack of safety features. We do not want to see anymore dead bodies. Zahed Hasan

It is sad to see one of the reputed developers at this level. There was a time when Concord was synonymous with construction. It dominated the scene and awarded most public projects. Even today, Concord proudly claims to have worked on foreign soils, yet it is not ready to put this lesson to use for our growing society. Surely, it knows what is needed and what is proper in terms of safety.
