CNG price hike to raise cost of essentials
Say different organisations
Different organisations, in seperate statements, protested the price hike of compressed natural gas (CNG) by government saying that it will trigger price hike of essential commodities and services.
Terming this CNG price hike illogical and repressive, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) General Secretary Khalequzzaman urged the government to rescind the decision.
He said public transport owners are taking advantage of this hike, increasing fare whimsically, and causing suffering to the commuters in the city.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Syed Yousuf Hossain however claimed the hike was logical and the right decision.
President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Chittagong SM Nazer Hossain rejected Yousuf's claim. “His comments and imposition of increased price on common people are really pathetic”, he said.
CAB apprehended the hike would decrease the government's popularity.
BSD called upon the left leaning parties and progressive minded people for a united movement to resist the price hike.
