2 housewives killed for dowry, another rescued after hours of torture
Two housewives were murdered for dowry on Friday and Tuesday while another was rescued on Friday after 14 hours of torture allegedly by husbands and in-laws.
A housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Mirzapur village in Chowgachha upazila of Jessore on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Selina Khatun, 20, wife of Kamruzzaman of the village, reports UNB.
Police and local sources said Kamruzzaman married Selina, daughter of Sarat Ali, of the neighboring village a year ago. Soon after the marriage, Kamruzzaman and his family members started torturing Selina demanding dowry money.
On the fateful night, Kamruzzaman and his brother Alauddin following a quarrel over the issue, beat up Selina mercilessly leaving her dead on the spot.
At one stage they poured poison into Selina's mouth to prove that she had committed suicide.
In Nilphamari, another housewife was murdered allegedly by her husband for dowry at Para village in Domar upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identifies as Putul, 25, wife of Dulal Hossain of the village.
Police quoting locals said Dulal married Putul, daughter of Jasim Uddin of Bhagini village in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district nine years back. Dulal took Tk 73,000 as dowry.
Soon after the marriage Dulal and his family members started torturing her for more money and a bicycle.
On the fateful night he picked up a quarrel with her over the issue. At one stage he beat up her mercilessly and strangulated her to death.
Later, Dulal hanged the body of Putul from a tree adjacent to his house to prove that she had committed suicide.
In Kurigram, a housewife was rescued after 14 hours of brutal torture perpetrated on her allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Nijai Khamar village in Ulipur upazila early Friday.
The victim was identified as Shahnaz Parvin, 30, wife of Abu Saeed, 35, of the village.
Local people said Abu Sayeed, son of Hafez Mia married Shahnaz Parvin, daughter of Alhaz Solaiman Mia of Doldolia village of the upazila in 2000. Since then her in-laws used to torture her on flimsy grounds, they said.
Neighbours said, on Thursday noon, her in-laws picked up a quarrel with Shahnaz over a trifling matter and after brutal torture tied her up with a rope in her room.
Hearing the shrill cry of Shahnaz, locals rushed in but they were refrained from entering the house.
Meanwhile, the twin daughters of Shahnaz escaped from the scene and informed their maternal uncle about the incident who at once informed the police.
Police rescued Shahnaz at 2am Friday and admitted her to Ulipur health complex.
