3,000 get DBBLscholarship

Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) provided scholarships to 3,021 poor, meritorious, and challenged students of different colleges from across the country on Saturday as part of its corporate social responsibility and social welfare programme. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid distributed the scholarship letters to the students, who passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations last year, at Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in the city. Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman was present as the special guest while DBBL Executive Committee Chairman Sayem Ahmed presided over the occasion. The minister in his speech praised the scholarship programme saying it would help move forward the government's education activities, said a press release. He also urged the well-off people to extend help to the helpless and underprivileged students for the sake of proper development of the country. Dr Aitur said this programme would be a unique example in economic sector for nurturing the poor and meritorious students. Around 80 percent of the scholarship has been given to the rural students and 50 percent to female students, said Sayem Ahmed. DBBL Managing Director KS Tabrez also spoke.
