Chittagong University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday blockaded the movement of campus-bound shuttle trains demanding resignation of the proctor. Some BCL activists also vandalised two buses of CU teachers when the drivers of a shuttle train and a private minibus suffered injuries. Following the BCL protest, the university authorities postponed all examinations scheduled for yesterday. The BCL activists yesterday called a strike saying they would not allow movement of any shuttle train or minibus to the university until their six-point demand is met. The demands include removal of CU Proctor Dr M Akhtar Hossain, Assistant Proctor Saiful Islam, Inspector Mizanur Rahman of the campus police outpost, and Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad of Hathazari Police Station. They also demanded withdrawal of the cases filed against BCL men at different times for clashing on the campus. The protesters, however, temporarily called off the strike following a meeting, held around 9:00pm last night, with the university administration. The administration assured the BCL activists of fulfilling four demands except the demand for resignation of two proctors. The campus sources said the BCL group reportedly led its unit BCL vice president Anisuzzaman Imon kept the blockade all along yesterday. No shuttle train or any minibus could come to the campus during the strike.
