Maiming Limon
Probe report within 10 days
The investigator, whom the home ministry commissioned to probe the Rab firing at 16-year-old college student Limon Hossain, yesterday completed recording statements of the witnesses.
Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, Barisal additional divisional commissioner, yesterday talked to Henoara Begum, mother of Limon and complainant of the case against six Rab personnel, at Jhalakathi circuit house.
Shawkat said over 17 people were interviewed in three rounds as per a home ministry list. He declined to give details but said he hopes to submit the probe report within next ten days.
A Rab team reportedly shot Limon in the leg at a place adjacent to his house at Jamaddarhat in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi on March 23, two weeks before his HSC examinations. Later, the leg had to be amputated.
Rab on the day of the incident filed two cases against the teenager-- one under arms case and another for obstructing the law enforcers in discharging their duty. The incident drew widespread criticism as the media and people raised the allegation of violating human rights against the Rab men.
After dilly-dallying for a long time, on April 26 police recorded the attempt-to-murder case filed by Limon's mother on orders of a district court. However, no action has yet been taken against the six accused.
