CCC starts safe medical waste disposal from Sunday
The government and non-government hospitals and clinics operating in Chittagong city will start disposing medical wastes in a more hygienic way from Sunday.
The waste management will be done under a pilot programme taken by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) in collaboration with Innovation Waste Management.
CCC Mayor Manjur Alam inaugurated the operation programme at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) yesterday.
The mayor assured all concerned of all-out supports from the city corporation as well as from his part for the success of the programme.
CMCH Deputy Director Dr Saroj Kumar Barua said if the waste management activities go on full swing, Chittagong city will advance a step towards becoming a healthy city.
Matiur Rahman Khan, chairman of Innovation Waste Management, a non-government organisation, said the environment protection act 1995 will guide the waste management.
He said the government, as per the act, formed a "colour code", under which medical wastes should be put into three different containers according to their type for proper management and disposal in a hygienic way.
"We will sit with all concerned related to the management of health care providers in both the government and non-government sectors for consultation," he said.
