Law for punishment soon: Minister

Staff Correspondent
The government will enact a law with a provision of punishment to both the recruiting agencies and overseas jobseekers for exchanging extra charges in the recruitment process of foreign jobs, said Expatriates' Welfare Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday. "We are working on fixing migration costs for different countries. If anyone violates this, tough actions will be taken against them. Otherwise, the sector cannot be disciplined," said Mosharraf. He said high migration cost is the major problem in the Bangladesh's overseas jobs sector. The migrants cannot recover the money they spend to go abroad in two to three years, as they spend very high migration cost. So, they overstay and become irregular. The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural of the website of Expatriates' Welfare Bank, whose major functions are to lend money to the overseas jobseekers so they don't need to sell their properties or borrow at high interest rates.
