'Ensure safe water to check cholera'
Speakers yesterday called upon the government to stop cholera disease research on the country's people by International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B).
Claiming that there is no need of cholera vaccine, they said ICDDR, B is conducting research on testing the vaccine's efficiency for commercial gain.
There is no need for vaccine rather pure water and clean environment are enough to prevent the spread of cholera. The health ministry should emphasise on ensuring pure water and clean environment, they said.
Members of Swastha Andolon said this at its meeting on Cholera Vaccine Programme at the health ministry in the city, says a press release.
They alleged that ICDDR, B is patronising the health minister and secretary since World Health Conference in 2010 to market the vaccine commercially in Bangladesh.
