Mystery over kidnap of bank official

Mystery shrouds over the kidnapping incident of a bank officer from Agrabad Commercial area here on Sunday afternoon. Abul Hasnat Mahmud alias Bishu, 30, employed at National Credit and Commerce Bank, Agrabad branch, was kidnapped around 6:10pm, alleged Hasnat's brother Abul Hasan Mahmud in a case filed with Double Mooring Police Station on Sunday night. But Rab, at a press briefing yesterday, said they arrested Hasnat and another Mainul Hossain alias Sohel, employee of Eastern Bank Limited (EBL), Agrabad branch, from Rajlaxmi area of Uttara in Dhaka around 8:30am yesterday. The arrests were made as EBL made a formal complaint with Rab on April 6 alleging the two laundered the bank's Tk 65,55,000 by forging cheques, said Md Khushid Alam, deputy director of Rab Legal and Media Wing. Mentionable Chittagong police were informed of the arrests around 1:30pm yesterday. In the meantime, they had raided different areas of Chittagong for over 19 hours in search of Hasnat, said Assistant Commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat of the police station. The case complainant alleged Hasnat's friend Sohel kidnapped him due to previous enmity. OC Rezaul of Uttara police said the two were handed over to them around 8:00pm yesterday.
