Daily Star staff Hashem Mia passes away

Abul Hashem Mia, a graphic operator of The Daily Star, died from a stroke at a city hospital yesterday. He was 50. He was admitted to Ayesha Memorial Hospital at Mohakhali in the morning of May 18 after he suffered the stroke at his residence in Tejkuni Para. Hashem left behind wife, daughter, son, brothers, sisters and a host of admirers. Hailing from Jamalpur, he joined The Daily Star as a graphic operator in September 2007. His colleagues at the newspaper paid last tributes to him by placing wreaths on his coffin when the body was brought to The Daily Star office on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue yesterday noon. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the office after Zohr prayers. Later, the body was sent to his village home at Kulkandi under Islampur upazila in Jamalpur for burial. Hashem's only son is an HSC student at Government Science College in the capital while his daughter reads in class-IX at Kulkandi High School in Jamalpur. The Daily Star family expressed profound shock at his death and paid condolences to the bereaved family members and relatives.
