'Punish killers of UPDF leaders'

Some distinguished personalities in a statement yesterday demanded punishment to the culprits who have killed four leaders of United People Democratic Front (UPDF) in Rangamati on Saturday. They condemned the attack on the leaders and said the killing of UPDF leader Animesh Chakma and three others was a part of a conspiracy to deprive the indigenous people in the hills of their rights to self-determination. The signatories of the statement also said those who have killed the UPDF leaders are actually impeding the movement to ensure rights of Adivasi people. Note writer Badaruddin Umar, anti-British movement activist Pranesh Samaddar, writer Shawkat Ali, Dr Akmal Hossain, Jatiya Mukti Council secretary Dr Faizul Hakim, Naya Gonotantrik Gono Morcha convener Shibli Kaium, Bangladesh Lekhak Shibir general secretary Hasibur Rahman, Porimol Singh Barail, and Pradeep Murmu, among others, signed the statement.
