Shifting of UP vote centre protested
Two chairman and 10 member candidates of Salimpur Union Parishad in Sitakunda, Chittagong yesterday protested the election officer's decision of changing a vote centre.
The candidates jointly claimed that on May 23 District Election Officer Khorshid Alam announced Chhinnamul High School as the new polling centre despite Chauk Abasik Primary School being the previous centre.
At a news conference at Chittagong Press Club (CPC), they also alleged that the decision to shift the vote centre was made upon direction by Awami League lawmaker Abul Kasem Master, whose son-in-law is a candidate for the election.
The election officer, however, denied the allegation and said the polling centre has not been changed. He said they have just added another centre so the Chhinnamul (rootless people) can easily cast votes at their centre.
