College admission begins tomorrow

Admission process in the colleges will begin from tomorrow across the country through distribution of admission forms till June 9. Like previous years, no admission test will be held for admission in class XI under the 2011-12 session. Students qaulifying the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations would get admission on the basis of their results. This was decided at a meeting at the Secretariat in the city yesterday with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in the chair. Chairmen of different education boards, principals of the city colleges, and the ministry officials attended the meeting. The meeting decided that the students who have gone for re-scrutinising their results can submit their admission forms by June 13 and classes would begin in all colleges from July 2. After the meeting, Nahid said several colleges would go for online admission for the first time with 16 colleges in Dhaka Board alone. He also said two percent seats, this year, will be reserved for children of teachers or managing committee members or staff of the education ministry and its offices concerned. A five percent quota will be reserved for the children and grandchildren of the freedom fighters. Nahid said a 10 percent quota will be reserved for the admission aspirants from outside Dhaka while a 10 percent quota will be reserved for the girl students in the colleges. Dhaka Board Chairman Prof Fahima Khatun said the list of eligible candidates would be published on June 19 and the last date of admission without late fee and with bank draft is June 28.
