'Cut defence budget for education'
Former adviser to a caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury yesterday suggested the government to cut budget for defence to invest on the country's education sector.
“More cantonments were built in the country in recent past than public universities. Expense in defence is increasing every year, which is a big failure for our country,” she said.
She was speaking at a workshop titled “Financing in Education” organised by National Front of Teachers and Employees (NFTE) at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city.
“Right to education should also be turned into a law otherwise it would not be possible to implement the education policy,” she said.
“Investing in education means investing for a bright future,” said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, speaking as the chief guest.
