5 die in road crashes

Five people were killed and 12 injured in seperate road accidents in Tangail and Sirajganj yesterday. Our Tangail correspondent reports: A truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Nagarpur upazila killing three day-labourers riding on it on the spot and injuring 11 others. The deceased are Shahidul Islam, 35, and Abdul Halim, 40, of Nagarpur upazila and Monirul Islam, 27, hailing from Sirajganj. The injured were taken to Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex. In Siranjganj, two motorcycle riders were killed and a pedestrian was inured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided with the motorbike on the western side of Bangabandhu Jamuna Bridge. The deceased were identified as Fakir Chand, 45, of Saidabad village in Siranjganj Sadar upazila and Motaleb Hossain, 40, of Jamalpur district. Motaleb died on way to Sirajganj General Hospital while the pedestrian was admitted to the hospital, reports our Sirajganj correspondent. Police seized the auto-rickshaw.
