JMB cadre on 10-day remand
A Jamalpur court placed a cadre of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a 10-day remand on Thursday after Jamalpur Sadar police produced him before the court with a prayer for it.
The JMB cadre, Moazzem Hossain Mollah, 22, of Ghatbila village in Mollarhat upazila in Bagerhat district was arrested when he and his cohort Jhony were photocopying a leaflet at Sardarpara in Jamalpur town on Wednesday evening.
The leaflet contained 'motivational speeches' of hanged JBM kingpins Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Ataur Rahman Sunny and Abdul Awal.
Jhony, however, managed to escape.
Following Moazzem's preliminary confession, police raided his rented house at Adipaita village in Melandaha upazila in the district on the same night and recovered some more leaflets containing speeches of the hanged JMB kingpins.
Moazzem had rented the house from its owner Khalilur Rahman one week before introducing himself as a cloth trader, police said.
Moazzem, who at first tried to mislead police by giving wrong identity, later told police that JMB's military wing chief Ataur Rahman Sunny recruited him as an activist of the outfit in 2005 when he was a student of a local madrasa, Jamalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Firoz Khan told The Daily Star yesterday.
"We are quizzing Moazzem in our custody and he may be sent to the joint interrogation cell [JIC] in Dhaka," he added.
