800 chickens die in 3 days, 1300 other poultry birds culled
About 800 chickens died of bird flue during last three days in Kulaura upazila while District Livestock Department culled 1283 more chickens, ducks and parrots in one square kilometre area of the affected place.
The administration said there is no information of bird flue infection in human body and the situation is under control.
After about 800 chickens of 'Jibon Poultry Farm' at village Monsurnagar under Kadipur union of Kulaura upazila died in last three days, farm owner Nazrul Islam informed Upazila Livestock Office of the matter.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Nurul Islam and Veterinary Surgeon Dr Aminul Islam went to the farm shortly and primarily detected the chickens' disease as bird flue.
Samples were sent to Field Investigation Laboratory at Sylhet and later to Livestock Research Institute at Savar where test reports confirmed that the poultry birds were infected with deadly 'birds flue H-5 virus', which is able to infect human body, Dr Nurul Islam told this correspondent.
Following the report, livestock officials with help of joint forces culled and buried all the chickens, ducks and parrots in one kilometre area of Monsurnagar village on Thursday night.
