3 jail warders suspended in Kishoreganj
Three security men of Kishoreganj jail were suspended yesterday as they attacked and injured four visitors allegedly for realising money.
The suspended persons are Joinal Abedin (No. 12542), Paritosh Chandra Das (No. 12059) and Mahfuzur Rahman (No. 12710).
The action was taken by DIG Prison of Dhaka Range Maj. Shamsul Haider Siddiqui during a visit to the jail yesterday, acting jail superintendent Ahsan Habib said.
A committee will be formed soon to probe the matter, the jail superintendent said.
The GID also visited injured driver Insan Ali at Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital.
Eye witnesses said, some security men demanded extra money from advocate Mamun-or-Rashid when he went to see his relative at the jail on Friday.
On refusal the security men became angry and at one stage assaulted Rashid.
As Insan Ali, a driver of Kishoreganj Zila Parishad, and some others tried to save Rashid, a section of jail warders attacked them with hammers and batons. Insan Ali and three others were inmjured.
Jail office sources said, the government fee for each visitor is Tk 2 but the warders collect Tk 10 from, witnesses said.
Allegations have it that a section of security guards at the jail often realise extra money from visitors.
